Job Description

Discover Financial Services is seeking a Principal Application Architect to lead the charge in driving technology strategy and technical capabilities within an application ecosystem. In this role, you will leverage your deep understanding of business processes and technical building blocks to design application architecture that balances business and customer needs with technical requirements for resiliency, security, and efficiency. Collaborating with application engineers, you will ensure the application ecosystem is engineered according to the architecture vision and evolves to meet changing customer and business needs. Additionally, you will actively manage and escalate risks and customer-impacting issues to management.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Sr. Product Owner(s) to develop product vision and align it with technology strategy.
  • Oversee the design process independently for applications.
  • Coach other architects on developing product quality strategies, including nonfunctional requirements.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of business processes and technical building blocks.
  • Train others in solution design patterns and engage in understanding and researching modern technologies and patterns.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Computer Science or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in Software Development, Software Engineering, Technical Architecture, or related fields.
  • Internal applicants must have a technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus architecture scale.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and Openshift is a plus.

Compensation

The base pay for this position typically ranges between $148,000.00 to $204,000.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors such as geographical location, experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
