Job Description

SJS Industrial, a veteran-owned media blasting, industrial painting, powder coating, and light fabrication shop in Virginia Beach, VA, is seeking a full-time professional experienced Booth Spray Painter. The ideal candidate will possess at least four years of recent technical experience applying industrial or marine coatings to metal components and will exhibit careful workmanship to ensure customer technical requirements are fulfilled.

Responsibilities

• Apply wet coatings in accordance with customer work orders, technical drawings, and additional instructions from the Production Manager.
• Operate all equipment following Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) instructions for safety and correct use.
• Inspect and maintain equipment and coordinate with maintenance technicians for regular preventative maintenance.
• Collaborate with Quality Control Inspectors to prevent defects and resolve any issues.
• Provide instruction to junior personnel and update senior personnel about the performance of junior staff and suggestions for improvement.
• Monitor paint stocks, levels, and storage to eliminate waste and report emergent problems or issues to management promptly.
• Perform routine shift closeout activities like cleanup, tool return, and general housekeeping.
• Other production-related tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Production Manager or company officers.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of recent career experience wet spray painting in an industrial or maritime/marine environment.
• Ability to understand and accurately interpret line drawings, specifications, and technical details shown on work orders.
• Knowledge of the basic physical properties and mechanics of spray painting for metals.
• Willingness to wear proper protective equipment as required by occupational safety laws.
• Strong English communication skills, including the ability to provide junior spray painters with simple verbal instructions.
• Physical capabilities for a fast-paced physical job in a noisy environment, including the ability to see and hear clearly, stand/walk, bend over, crouch, and lift and carry objects up to 30 pounds in weight.
• Ability to qualify for forklift certification is a plus.
• Must pass a drug test and background check.
