Why Calorie Number is More important for Losing Weight
Most people understand that they have to burn calories to lose weight, but there has been much confusion as to whether calorie type or calorie number is most important. Some health experts say that calorie type is the most important because fat yields a higher caloric value than protein and carbohydrates. However, the more recent studies confirm that it is indeed the calorie number that matters the most when it comes to weight loss.
The reasoning behind that finding is quite simple. Five hundred calories is 500 calories; it does not matter whether it comes from a steak or a piece of chocolate cake. For that reason, a person’s primary aim should just be to lose weight by burning calories. But never go eat less than on a 1000 calorie diet plan. Otherwise the metabolism may slow down.
In order for a person to lose weight, he or she will have to cut back on his or her eating. This means eating smaller portions of the meals that one normally eats.
Eating healthy also means eliminating foods that are unhealthy. This includes foods that are fried, salty, sugary and fatty. They should be replaced with fruits, vegetables and grains.
One should also make sure that he or she is drinking healthy. Soft drinks and sugary beverages add empty calories to a person’s diet and should be avoided as much as possible. One should drink water as much as possible.
Exercise is another one of the key players in losing weight. It produces an energy deficit, which is necessary for shedding pounds. Exercise should be performed most days a week and should last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. One does not even need a gym membership to reap the benefits of working out. Invest in a stepper machine to get a great workout in from home. Walking instead of driving, taking the stairs instead of the elevator and parking farther away from a destination are simple ways to get extra activity in one’s day. So just exercise regularly and eat less and you will lose weight.
